Five Tips for Finding Professional Carpet Cleaners

If you want to hire a professional carpet cleaner, there are some important things you need to know before you begin. Just follow these five tips for finding professional carpet cleaners to ensure you get the very best service

1. Are they certified carpet cleaners?

Professional carpet cleaners will have completed a schedule of specialised training courses and examinations and will hold a recognised certification from an independent certification body.  They must undertake periodical ongoing education to maintain this certification.  By ensuring that your carpet cleaner is certified, you are ensuring that they have the right knowledge to clean your carpet.  Ask to see copies of their certification.

2. Are they insured?

A professional carpet cleaner will hold public liability insurance to ensure that both they and their customers are protected in the event of an accident or property damage.  They should be happy to show you a copy of their insurance upon request.  If they can’t demonstrate that they have insurance cover, then you run the risk of being exposed to substantial risk in the event of an accident or property damage

3. Do they offer a written guarantee?

An important consideration when you start to compare carpet cleaners is making sure that they offer a written guarantee. This should be prominently displayed on their website and a hard copy available to you upon request reason. The reason why this is important is because a professional carpet cleaner will always stand by their work.  They will want to provide you with the very best service and ensure that their good reputation is maintained.

4. Are they members of a professional trade association?

Professionals of any discipline are usually members of a trade association and it is no different for carpet cleaners.  Membership of a trade association demonstrates commitment to both self and industry improvement.

5. Do they offer you a written, fixed price quotation before starting the job?

A well known tactic of the less scrupulous contractors is to operate what is known as the “Bait & Switch” tactic.  This involves offering a very low price to clean your carpets over the telephone and then once in your home, charging excessively for items that should be included as standard.  A professional carpet cleaner will inspect your carpet and offer you an exact written quotation before they start and explain exactly what they will do for that price.  You will be under no obligation until you accept their quotation

So if you want to get the best possible service and ensure that your carpet is cleaned professionally follow these tips to find the best carpet cleaners.

Carpet Cleaning

People often ask – why do I need spend money on a carpet cleaning service?

Well the answer might surprise you, as not only do you need to clean your carpets to keep them looking good, but carpet cleaning plays an important role in maintaining the air quality in your home and the health of your family.

As well as looking good and feeling great under your feet, your carpets are busy every day filtering out dirt, soils and odours and locking them away within their fibres so that they aren’t constantly circulating around your home.

But like any other type of filter, to maintain your carpets in tip top condition they need to be professionally cleaned at least every 12 months.

Carpet cleaning for health requires that as much of the solid, particle soil is removed as is physically possible.  The first stage in this process involves pre-vacuuming and is the most important step in the removal of dry particles from the carpet.

Once the dry soil has been removed, the next step in the carpet cleaning process involves removing water and oil based soils.

There are several methods of carpet cleaning available

  • Rotary shampooer with brush – a foaming detergent suspends soil when agitated with rotary type brush action.  Wet vacuuming is used to remove suspended soils and detergents.
  • Rotary shampooer with absorbent pad – a detergent solution is sprayed into the carpet followed by rotary spin buffing of the carpet with an absorbent p[ad to remove the loosened soils
  • Dry foam shampoo – a dense foaming detergent is applied top carpet and worked in with reel type brushing action.  Excess foam and suspended soil are removed with vacuuming.
  • Encapsulation – a similar method to the rotary shampooer but with encapsulation, the cleaning solutions have been designed to surround the soils from the carpet and dry in a crystal state to be removed by general vacuuming at a later date
  • Dry absorbent compound – The absorbent compound is “broadcast” onto the carpet surface and agitated with a brush.  The compound absorbs the soil.  After drying both compound and soil are removed with dry vacuuming
  • Steam Cleaning – Hot water/detergent solution is injected under pressure, soil is suspended and wet vacuum simultaneously removes soil and excess moisture

The most commonly used methods are rotary shampooer with absorbent pad, encapsulation and steam cleaning.

Each carpet cleaning method has its merits based upon the degree of cleaning required, the type of carpet and the location and traffic of the carpet being cleaned.

Anyone know how to remove spots left on glass from accidently spraying car upholstery cleaner on it?

So one day i was cleaning my car when i accidently sprayed some of the upholstery cleaner on the glass that covers my gauges (spedometer, odometer, etc). Now I have some lovely spots on there that i cannot get rid of. Anyone have any suggestions? I’m thinking I may just have to pay to replace it.

The instrument panel clear surface is most likely plastic. And possibly the upholstry cleaner has etched itself into the plastic. Try just a little petroleum based solvent with a soft cloth, on a small area that’s affected.

Cedar stain removal from white clothes?

My daughter stored her white school jacket in a cedar chest. When she removed the jacket, it had red streaks on the side from the cedar on the chest. I have tried to use oxy clean, but it doesn’t seem to work. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the red cedar stains?
This article of clothing has blue on it also, so I don’t know if peroxide would be such a good idea.

Boy this ones tough. Try soaking it in vinegar and water. That might break up the stain, and hopefully it will come out in the wash when using your detergent, and the warmest water setting you can safely use on the jacket. I’m assuming that the jacket is useless now with that stain. If nothing else works, I’d try bleaching it. Good luck.

how fast does it take carpet to dry after steam cleaning it?

i want to steam clean my carpet, but im afraid it will take too long to dry and ill end up ruining my carpet. i have a small house, so i wouldnt be able to avoid stepping on it. and i have 3 dogs. what can i do?

If you hire a Professional Steam Cleaner who is IICRC Certified about 6-8 hrs. If you hire a spray and suck cleaner 1 day to 4 days because the get the padding wet.

You can Go Dry Cleaning Depending on your carpeting. Which will dry right away but you have dogs so I would not recommend it.

Chem Dry Is a carbonated cleaning system. It is a hot water carbonated extraction. Since it is carbonated it does not get the backing or padding wet. It dries in 1 to 3 hrs depending how thick your carpet is. It does a great job and does not have any surfactants ( soap ) in the solution to leave a dirt attracting residue. It is a green company and it will not affect your dogs.

Any one used chem-dry carpet cleaners are they good?

My carpets need cleaning. I’ve heard chem-drys the best have you used and how did your carpets look after?

Hi
If you were looking to have your whole carpet cleaned. I would recommend a Chem Dry Carpet Cleaning. As it is a low moister cleaning system that uses a product called “The Natural”, which is safe for kids and pets. This product leaves no sticky residue behind so your carpet will stay cleaner.

What would be the easiest way to start up a carpet cleaning business?

I would like to start up a carpet cleaning small business within my area. I would carry on working doing what I’m doing anyway, but try to build the business up slowly, around the hours that I work. I don’t really have any capital. I was thinking down the lines of renting the machinery on a monthlly basis.
any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thankyou

I applaud anyone who has the guts to attempt to do something on his own. Regardless of the type of business, It is always better to be your own boss.
Your time and energy is your capital. Renting your equipment, will enable you to write-off your expense for using that equipment. Having a full time job, will help you to take care of your personal financial needs, while you build your business. I suggest, that you advertise, letting your clients know that you are available for "evening hour" appointments, and on weekends. A lot of full time business like your’s do not work after hours or on weekends. Make yourself available at times that is convienient for your client. Most households have both husband and wife having to work outside the home, so providing this client time will help your business. A caution, in that you will be working inside homes, I recommend liability/damage insurance, because today’s population is suit prone. Be prepaired, something will break when you get near it, or maybe even get damaged when exposed to your cleaning chemicals. Always be prepared for the worst, because it will happen. In other words, "cover your ___s"

Where can I find a cheap, new, upholstery cleaning machine?

This is what my daughter would most like for Christmas. She has a child, a man, and 3 pets. Plus, she’s a germophobe, so she doesn’t want a used one. I would like to get her something like a Little Green Machine, easy to use, yet effective. I live in Central Indiana. I already looked on e-bay. Any ideas? Serious answers only, please. Thanks!

Hi baymast13,
I recommend Bissell SpotBot ProHeat Hands-Free Compact Deep Cleaner, 12U9A . I think it would be great for your daughter

Where can I find a good carpet cleaning service around LA?

I live in an apartment in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, Los Angeles.

I want to clean the carpet in just one of the rooms.

Should I just rent a Rug Docotor? Are those machines good? Or would it be better to just hire a carpet cleaning service?

Rent a Rug Dr. They work very well. Use the hottest water in it along with the solution. If you have stains pretreat them before cleaning using some of the clean steaming solution. When done cleaning go over the carpet again using 2 cups of white vinegar and hot water. This will remove any soap residue and odors. Pulling up on the handle slightly will put the front of the steamer into the carpet and extract more water.
